Office 365 -> "Homefolder" online

$

0

Hi All,

I am planning an Office 365 deployment for a (very) small company. As this company is currently in a startup-fase they do not have any legacy systems / infrastructure. There is no server on the premises, they would like to use Office 365 / OneDrive (for business), to save all their files.

Obviously i would like to provide the users with a homefolder to which only that specific user, and the administrator has access to.

Am i correct if i:

  • Create a folder in OneDrive for business
  • Share this folder with the user and the administrator
  • Redirect the local document folders on the users PC to the shared folder in OneDrive?

Or is there another, better, way to create homefolders?

thanks in advance for your answers / thoughts!

Regards,

b.

Office 365 - Archiving online mailboxes to PST

Good Afternoon,

We have moved our mailboxes from on premise to Office 365. Before we can delete a user from the online admin centre we need to be able to archive their mailbox to a PST in case we need access to their email in the future.

Any assistance with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and regards.

Shared mailboxes requiring a license

Hi,

I have created some shared mailboxes and delegated myself access. Now the problem is that without assigning these a license they don't appear in my outlook and don't create the mailbox for the account. I thought they didn't need a license so do you assign the license then remove it or is there some other way of doing this because this seems a massive oversight from Microsoft??

Thanks

Office 365 outgoing server DNS entries

$

Hi

My organisation doesn't use Office 365, but some people we deal with do. We're seeing thier email being bounced intermittently by both of our mail gateways and by our ISP's store-and-forward backup relay.

When the message fails, it's last hop before reaching us is from a server that appears to not have a DNS entry- one example is DB3PR01MB137.eurprd01.prod.exchangelabs.com. If I try to ping that by name it doesn't resolve, and when I did a routine DNSRBL lookup on it at https://toolbox.surftown.com/cgi-bin/rbl.cgi that fails to resolve it too- but I find this very strange.

I'm pretty certain having an unresolvable address as the sending address will cause all sorts of issues- using the RBL checker against my MX resolves both the forward and reverse DNS correctly.

Note that the failure only happens intermittently. Mail that succeeds seems to come from another range-

emea01-am1-obe.outbound.protection.outlook.com

but when it fails, the generating server is something like DB3PR01MB137.eurprd01.prod.exchangelabs.com, which has been denied relaying by our our ISP's server, having presumably been rejected by our gateway because DNS doesn't resolve. Any ideas?

I've previously posted this at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/oemail-osend/office-365-outgoing-server-dns-entries/e6141595-cb58-41eb-8bb6-cf98a66b4e36?msgId=81a29763-4e17-4d3a-b158-1be7dea2fa27 but it was suggested I post here- this forum seemed the best match.

Thanks

Chris

Office 2013 KMS activation problem

$

Hi all,

I have a problem with office 2013 activation through KMS in my VDI environment.

I have installed template VM with office 2013 and did office rearm before sysprep the image. After that I have created more than 5 new VM's and I saw that Office is not activated.

When I run ospp.vbs /act I've got an error 0xc004f038 means that count is insufficient. I checked 12290 events on my KMS and saw that I have identical CMID's for different VM's in that time when I tried to activate office.

I tried to rearm office again but I saw new error 0xc004d307 meaning that maximum allowed number of re-arms has been exceeded. This is very strange because I have rearmed just once before I did sysprep VM template.

How can I solve this problem with Office activation?

Uninstall Microsoft Office 2013 using Invoke-TroubleshootingPack

Hi,
I'm deploying an uninstallation package to uninstall Office 2013 using the ingenious Microsoft Fix it (located here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501/en-us) called O15CTRRemove.

When running it manually, it removes everything that is related to Microsoft Office 2013 and I am able to install a new Office 2013 without any problems (changing from Office 365 to VL).

The problem is as follows:
I need to do this silently on a lot of computers using a deployment tool. I figured out how to use powershell and I'm doing it in the following way:
Import-Module TroubleshootingPack
$DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 = Get-TroubleshootingPack -Path "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall\O15CTRRemove"
Invoke-TroubleshootingPack -Pack $DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 -AnswerFile "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall\DIAG_Off_RemoveOff2013.xml" -unattended
I created the Answerfile DIAG_Off_RemoveOff2013.xml in the following way (according tohttp://blogs.technet.com/b/heyscriptingguy/archive/2011/02/09/use-powershell-troubleshooting-packs-to-diagnose-remote-problems.aspx):
Get-TroubleshootingPack "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall\O15CTRRemove" -answerfile "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall\DIAG_Off_RemoveOff2013.xml"

It looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Answers Version="1.0" />
When I run the script it works but for some reason, it doesn't work when I run it as system (my deployment tool runs the script as system, and I've tried it manually like this):
psexec -i -s cmd
cmd /C powershell -executionpolicy unrestricted -file "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall\Uninstall_Office2013.ps1"
It just hangs and I can see in eventviewer that it has run a few troubleshooting packs, that the uninstall of Office is complete but it doesn't continue until I force kill sdiagnhost.exe.
If I run the script after killing sdiagnhost.exe, it finishes without a problem.
I have temporarily solved it like this (I run the same job twice, to be sure everything is removed and the second one finishes quickly while the first hangs until the timeout):
Start-Job -ArgumentList -ScriptBlock {
 $DIR = "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall"
 Import-Module TroubleshootingPack

 $DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 = Get-TroubleshootingPack -Path "${DIR}\O15CTRRemove"
 Invoke-TroubleshootingPack -Pack $DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 -AnswerFile "${DIR}\DIAG_Off_RemoveOff2013.xml" -unattended
}

Get-Job | Wait-Job -Timeout 1200
Get-Job | Receive-Job
Get-Job | Remove-Job -Force

Start-Job -ArgumentList -ScriptBlock {
 $DIR = "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall"
 Import-Module TroubleshootingPack

 $DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 = Get-TroubleshootingPack -Path "${DIR}\O15CTRRemove"
 Invoke-TroubleshootingPack -Pack $DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 -AnswerFile "${DIR}\DIAG_Off_RemoveOff2013.xml" -unattended
}

Get-Job | Wait-Job -Timeout 1200
Get-Job | Receive-Job
Get-Job | Remove-Job -Force
I am thinking that there is some kind of dialogue questions that I need to get into the answer file, but I have no idea how to do it.
Any help is appreciated!
Best regards,
Simon

Display level suppressed when installing Office 365 ProPlus via SCCM even though XML says Display Level="Full"

As the title says the display level is suppressed when installing Office 365 ProPlus via SCCM even though XML says Display Level="Full"

I would like to install Office ProPlus with the display level visible to the user.  Not all users are local admins so I've installed Office within the admin context.  Does this happen because SCCM installs under system context and as such suppresses pop ups to the end user?

Has anyone been able to get this to work or am i doing something wrong?  If someone can offer me some guidance please.  Here is my XML:

Hi,

We are attempting to deploy OneDrive for Business desktop sync app to our organisation via SCCM, in-house packaged.

Has been a high success rate, however there are few users of which the sync app fails to install and the log files return errors associated with officeclicktorun.exe see below:

Found C2R Client at: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX64\OfficeClickToRun.exe

Launching OfficeClickToRun.exe with parameters: scenario=unknown acceptalleulas="True" cdnbaseurl="http://officecdn.microsoft.com/pr/39168D7E-077B-48E7-872C-B232C3E72675" productreleaseid="none" displaylevel="False" culture="en-us" baseurl="C:\Windows\ccmcache\q2" lcid="1033" platform="x86" updatesenabled="True" version="15.0.4631.1002"

C2R Client returned failing error code 255

As a result it also tries to install MS Office Pro Plus 2013 and screwing up the 2010 office install as a result.  Can anyone advise?

Hey guys!

Within Project 2013 there is the Visual Reports feature.

If you try to open an Visio template the following error is produced:

Error says 'This operation requires that have Visio professional 2007 or later installed on your computer'

I have the Visio 2013 installed so I don't really understand why this is happening.

Any help would be fantastic!

Thanks :)

Office 2013 Crashing After Printing to HP Laser Printers

$

I have a customer with an HP Elite computer, Windows 8, and Office 2013 (perpetual license, NOT Office 365).  The first page of a print job to an HP laser printer comes out fine.  However, it will not print another page.  Word or Excel hangs, and then asks to "Restart, or Close".  After the first page, if I go to Task Manager, I see "Windows Host Process (Rundll32) Not Responding".  Also when I close Windows 8, I get the message hpmsn140.dll or hpmsn09.dll "Not Responding".

This problem does not occur with other applications.

This problem does not occur with other non-HP LaserJet printers.

This problem occurs with both USB and network printers.

The only way to clear the problem is rebooting the computer.

I have tried the Windows 8 driver, HP's PCL 6 driver from their website, and HP Universal Print Driver from their website.  All have the same issue.

I have tried logging in as Administrator, as well as, the Standard User.  Both logins have the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Unable To Add New Mail Profile In Control Panel With Custom Settings For Office365

$

Howdy,

We have several domain joined computers that are connected to Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2013 sp1 clients.

We have a several users that will be migrated to Office 365. We can add an additional account to Outlook for their new Office 365 account. But we want to add an entire new Mail(32 bit) profile. When going to click "Add" under Mail(32 bit) applet, the only prompt we receive is to give the profile a name, and then it just automatically adds a new profile with the on premise Exchange settings from Active Directory. And that is on top of the Profile that is already configured for On-Premise Exchange.

The problem is we should be getting an "Add Account" wizard when doing this but instead just proceeds to set up a new account without asking for anything other then a profile name.

We want to add a new profile with Office 365 settings so that we may remove the On-Premise Exchange account in Outlook. This way it gives the user only access to their Office 365 Outlook account. We will migrate their mailboxes in the background.

Any Idea or thoughts as to why we are not being prompted with the "Add Account" wizard when clicking "Add..." in Mail (32 bit) after giving the profile a name?

Thanks.

How to disable password protection for Onenote 2013

I have been trying for a while to disable the ability for users to password protect a section in Onenote 2013.

I need to have access to all users onenote notebooks within the organization.

I have tried HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\OneNote\General\PasswordProtectionDisabled = 1 and it didn't work.

I tried the above solution on the 2010 version and it worked, but instead of it being 15.0 it was 14.0.

I would greatly appreciate any kind of help.

Hi,

We have a Windows 2003 domain with Exchange 2010. Is there any way we could migrate to Office 365 without the need to upgrade our domain controllers (f.e. a sync of AD users)?

Please advise.

Work 2013 Track Changes bug

Hi,

Our organization is migrating from Office 2010 to Office 2013.

So far, about half of the computer work with the new version.

We encounter a problem with the track changes features of Word 2013.

On a 23 pages Word 2010 Docx document, only 1 or 2 pages is displayed.
If I turn off the track changes feature, the document is perfectly displayed.
After several tests, the problem seems to affects only the ability to show marks in balloons.

Here's some fact:

Docx document created under Word 2010.
No bug of any king when using Word 2010.
Document is heavily annoted and commented: 9 reviewers, lots of comment on all 23 pages
Track changes off = perfect.
Track changes works when using "in text" only
Document bugs when selecting balloons.
All pc's using Word 2013 are affected. Remaining pc's with Word 2010 don't have the issue.

Any thought?

Thank you

Office 365: some basic questions

Hi,

I've read somewhere that Office 365 will offer unlimited storage via OneDrive.
If that's true, I'd like to sign up for an paying account.
I had a trial running some time ago for my private domain but didn't continue the trial.

What I'd like to have:
-unlimited storage for best price
-use my own domain in my mailaddress/outlook account => then I'd need a business account?
-share documents from onedrive to people who don't have a onedrive

Please advise.

microsoft office professional 2013 encountered an error during setup

Trying to install the 32 bit version of Office 2013.  Planning to keep all my old versions.  I have Access 2002 and 2003 that I need.  Was not installing Outlook 2013 as Outlook 2010 is the only Office app that I care if I have issues with and my IT dept controls a a bit more.  Getting the error "microsoft office professional 2013 encountered an error during setup" with no other info.  I have Windows 7, full admin rights, and closed all other Office apps.  I Just did a restart which also installed all current Windows patches.  Got the same error.

Any ideas or where to look for the cause?
