Moving License from One Microsoft Account to Another

$

I have a very similar issue to the one described in the thread named 'Changing licenses from one Microsoft account to another', however, the answer there really does not help me.  I want a simple 'try this' or 'you are stuck' answer.  Below is the situation:

I work for a small company that has many clients.  Last night the president asked me to buy Visio 2013 Standard edition and the company would reimburse me later for a meeting with one of the clients this morning.  I had to work fast, and so I bought a digital version of Visio from Newegg, and attached the license to my own Microsoft account.  Now, here is the issue: the company wants to be able to move this version of Visio that I just bought from my personal laptop to another undefined PC in the future.  I do not want to give them my Microsoft account credentials.  How can I transfer the license over to a Microsoft account of the company's choosing?  I already have one version of Visio for myself, and so I would much rather not have to eat the cost of this due to pressure from the company to get Visio installed so quickly.  However, I would rather know the answer to this question than not know.

Thanks.

Corrupt .rar archive in windows, how to repair?

$

Hey, I have an important .rar that is corrupt that I cannot repair via .par2 etc, because it is my own doing.

I just need to get as much of the file data as possible, whether it extracts corrupt or not. My problem is, if I "keep broken files" in WinRar, it truncates the file at the exact point the corruption begins, which is only like 80mb into a 900mb file.

Is there a way to have WinRar acknowlege the file's corrupt, keep extracting to get as close to 900mb original as possible?

I believe this will require third party recovery software. So if there's any good ones out there (even non-freeware), i'll get it as long as it's reputable to work.

Please help me, it would be appreciated! Thanks!

How to activate Office Web Apps Server 2013

Hi!

I deployed a single-server Office web apps server farm like this article

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219455(v=office.15).aspx

I have licence for Office web apps server in my msdn subscription.

How can I activate it?

I did not find any article about activation. My Office web apps server don't ask me about activation during installation. I download distributive from msdn too.

Office 2013 Pro-plus VDI Non-Persistent

I have shared computer activation setup in my VDI, The problem is that we also have roaming profiles setup and use non-persitant machines. Because the machines are non-persitant the liscensing token is never saved and the users are required to re-activate everytime they login. What can be done to make this work smoother?

Block signing into Office Group Policy

$

We are currently testing the deployment of Office 365 ProPlus in our company. We try to disable cloud services as good as possible.

I found a group policy setting to block signing into Office (User Configration - Adm. Temp. - Mic Office 2013 - Misc - Block signing into Office).

The description mentions that it does not apply to licensing, but if I enable the policy the activation fails ("This feature has been disabled by your administrator"). If I enable "Org ID only" the activation works.

Did I miss something or is this a bug?

Is there an other way to use the ID only for licensing purposes and not for any cloud services?

Best regards,

Thomas

[Outlook 2013] Apps for Office and Internet Explorer 11 (IE11)

We have the following configuration:

  • Windows 7 Professional,
  • Internet Explorer 11,
  • Microsoft Office 2013 (32-bit),
  • Microsoft Exchange 2013 CU6,
  • Symantec Enterprise Vault 11.

Patch level Microsoft Until 03-oct-2014, so very very recent.

What is the problem, in Exchange its possible to use "Office Web Apps" for integration with OWA. This works very good and we dont have any problems with OWA and the Office Web Apps within OWA Enterprise client.

But, in Outlook 2013, almost every "App for Office" crashes with a popup from Internet Explorer 11. When we open the App, we get a loading.... and after a while A popup with the message "Internet Exporer stopped working".

This is with every App i tested. And it can be reproduced.

What we tried:

  • Proxy settings;
  • Re-install Office 2013;
  • Internet Zone settings;
  • Browser compatibility modus with zones;
  • Reset internet explorer settings;
  • Various reg-hacks for IE security;
  • GPO settings for untrusted locations of Office Web Apps.

And lucky? No.

So we went back to IE9, and it works like a charm. No problems at all. But Unfortunately, IE9 is not an option due to company apps written for IE10+.

But when it works outside Outlook 2013 in IE11, but not inside outlook with IE11, there must be a problem somewhere with Outlook 2013/IE 11 integration. And actually, the currents Apps we don't need in Outlook 2013 (until snd quarter 2015, then we need them).

So for this time we configured "Block Apps for Office" GPO setting and depoyed it. And... In Every Office components Apps are disabled, but NOT in Outlook. So the GPO is not working for Outlook.

How to solve?

Lync 2013 OCT deployment on machines with Office 2010. Installation Failure

$

Hi,

In our environment, we have Win7, Office 2010 x86. (no plans to upgrade all of Office to 2013 as yet)

I'm trying to deploy Lync 2013 x86, and have packaged an MSP using "setup /admin" for later deployment via SCCM.

Now I know there are no problems running Lync 2013 with Office 2010 as it works fine if you manually install.

Strange thing is, when I try running the setup with MSP for silent install, it runs silent and all looks well although all the Office Tools shortcuts are created and there are files under the Program Files folders for Office\15.0 as expected but not Lync itself. ie: no lync.exe file or shortcuts.

Reviewing the setup log doesn't show any obvious errors that I can tell.

Also after this, if I go through the "Add/Remove Components" under Uninstall Programs\Lync 2013, and I can see in there that it DOES already show Lync as being installed, if I just click continue, it runs through the setup process and then Lync will be installed

I've also tried this same process using the Full "Office Pro Plus 2013" and only select Lync to install and the same thing happens.

Has anyone else come across this issue or could point me in the right direction.

For the OCT (setup.exe /admin) the only settings I've changed from defaults are:

- Filled in the Organisation name
- Set KMS licensing, display level to none and suppress modal
- some regkeys for some default settings for GalDownloadInitialDelay, ShownFirstRunOptin
- Force on Lync (Run from My Computer)

I'm running "setup.exe /adminfile Lync_x86.MSP" in my case to test this MSP.

Office 365 Pro Plus - updates from the internet

Hi All

I've used the Office deployment toolkit to download Office 365 Pro Plus to a local file server, and have now packaged this up within SCCM 2012 for deployment to clients.

In my configuration.xml file i have the following set for updates

  <Updates Enabled="TRUE" />

I understand that this setting allows for updates, and client will download them from the internet.

Is this correct?

I am concerned that the Office 365 source files i downloaded are a few months old now, so will be out of date and i am relying very much on my deployed clients to be downloading updates as expected.  Do i need to do anything else?

Thanks

Outlook 2013 can't preview Office files

I run Office 2013 Home and Business. I've just realized that Outlook 2013 refuses to preview Word, Excel and Powerpoint files saying "This file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following previewer"... and so on. After downloading the file I won't open either.

I finally came across solution allowing to open such downloaded files by modifying (=disabling) all Protected View components in Office apps, which in fact seems ridiculous for me as I used to run Office 2010 and the earlier solution (a bar with warning about opening a file from Internet) was just fine to live with. What's the purpose of this feature if one has to disable it to have Office apps working?!

Anyway, I'm able to open those files now.

However, modifying the Protected View options in other Office apps hasn't made Outlook preview working - how can I turn it back again?

How do you change the default font in Outlook 2013?

$

I am trying to set the default font in Outlook 2013 as per the customer's request and am having no success.

First I create a NormalEmail.dotm file and added it to the Office Customization Tool, created an msp and added it to my package. After installing Office 2013 I check and the NormalEmail.dotm is on the machine in %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates folder waiting to be loaded. When launching Outlook 2013 on first run it renames my NormalEmail.dotm to NormalEmail15Pre.dotm. I created the file in Word 2013 so it's not a 2010 version and it (NormalEmail15Pre.dotm) open cleanly in Word 2013 (it does not open in compatibility mode).  If I close Outlook and rename NormalEmail15Pre.dotm back to NormalEmail.dotm Outlook opens and uses my template without any issue. This is not a solution as I have 1000's of deployments and can't do this manually. One other thing, I did have this same problem with the default font in Word 2013 but by implementing a registry setting (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Options\MigrateNotmalOnFirstBoot = 1) it used my Normal.dotm template on first run, if such a setting exists for Outlook I can't find it.

Also I did try to set the font through the mailsettings (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\MailSettings) in the registry as we did with O2007 and O2010 but those do not load into Outlook when tweaked. http://blogs.technet.com/b/odsupport/archive/2009/04/24/how-to-deploy-specific-fonts-in-office-2007.aspx

Thank you for your help.

OCT 2013 Adding desktopfolder shortcuts

$

Hi,

When I add shortcuts in the Office Customization Tool for the desktop for Word, Excel, Outlook etc, I get the follow error message, please note that if I look at the preconfigured shortcuts for the start menu, they do not have a Start In folder specified.

So I added the start in folder off: C:\Program files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\

Fine, no problem right? Well by doing so and clicking OK, the OCT tool adds the same string to the Arguements field and if I try delete that and OK it, it comes back when I open it again:

Sure enough, after install when launching the programs with these shortcuts I get error messages starting with:

"Sorry, we couldnt find your file. Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted? (C:\Program.doc)"

I guess I could create a script to create my desktop shortcuts, but I rather keep the deployment simple with the built in functionality.

Am I doing something wrong or is this just a bug?

Enabling OneDrive explicitly for OneNote?

Hi Folks,

Currently we have OneDrive disabled via GPO. This obviously disables OneDrive across the board. This was done in response politics. However, there are a number of passionate people who would like to use OneNote to its fullest capacity, which requires the use of OneDrive. Is there any way that you've come across where OneDrive can be enabled explicitly for one application in the office suite (e.g. OneNote?).

Thanks for your thoughts.

Data Analysis Add-in appearing in a different language.

Using Office 2013 on  Windows 8. Original installation was in English. I installed the Japanese Language Pack for occasional use (need to practice). Office language and Windows language is set to English, but the Data Analysis tool is stuck in Japanese. As I have never used the Data Analysis tool, I am struggling with all the new words. Repair installing the English language pack, or repair installing Office itself, does not change the language back to English. Copying the files from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\Library\Analysis in a purely English installation over to the corresponding folder in my installation does not change the language. A few others who have had similar problems with earlier installations suggest doing something with config.xml but I don't know where that is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Need to get some work done ASAP.

Office 2013 ospprearm.exe

Hi,

I am working on an golden VDI image containing office 2013.

I've setup an KMS server and the activations are successfully. These are the steps I take:

1. Install office 2013. When installations is complete I run ospprearm.exe as administrator.
2. I notice that when I check the office MachineID there is no ID : ospp.vbs /dcmid
3. Then I shut down the golden image so it can be deployed.
4. when I create multiple desktops I see them all getting their own MachineID registering at the KMS server.

So until this part everything works like a charm for me.
Now the trouble starts when I would like to adjust the golden image.

5. I startup the Golden image edit some shortcuts or even nothing.
6. Run ospprearm.exe  (I already notice that the MachineID is indeed changing but there is one. Unlike before in step 2.)
7. shutdown the  golden image and deploy the virtual desktops again.
8. Now all desktops have the same MachineID, they don't bother about their license but I am afraid that after 180 days all licenses will expire.

Can someone tell me how to work with this... only workaround I can think of is reinstalling office every time the golden image has came online....

Office Web Applications 2013 - Unhealthy farm; Excel Calculation Services failed to convert the following file: http://internal/ecsxlstest.xls

Hello!

I have a fresh deployment of Office Web Applications 2013.

I ran New-OfficeWebFarm with following arguments:

It ran OK, I can see the discovery XML.

Ever since then, an warning and several errors are logged in the event viewer:

I connected Office Web Apps with Sharepoint 2013, the conenction is OK, the zones match, the integration is alive, but I can't open any document in the web apps.

I made a repair, reconfigured the office wep apps farm, and now it have following configuration:

The error remains. I tested manually to open the ecsxlstest.xls file, and it doesn't open indeed. Any xlsx file opens OK, but any xls file - does not.

The machine is reported "unhealthy", I guess, because of the error:

What can I do, to make the farm "healthy"? And what I need to do, to be able to open Excel 2003 files in web apps?

Office 2013 Workgroup Template GPO

$

Hi there.

I'm currently trying to setup a group policy for the office so that templates will be readily available for people in Word without having to open up the shared drive, but I've run into an issue. The policy doesn't work.

We're running Office 2013 Pro Plus which is volume licensed and have other policies which work just fine, managing default save locations, file formats, the usual stuff. All .admx/adml files are loaded into \\<FQDN>\SYSVOL\<FQDN>\policyDefinitions and all the application-specific policies are working okay.

Here's the issue. When I try to update the Shared Paths in the Office 2013 administrative template through Group Policy, pointing the Workgroup Templates entry to a shared drive, a local drive, anything, and apply it to the testing account, the policy just doesn't seem to apply. GPResult doesn't display that there are any Office-related GPOs being applied, the settings are not applied at all, and this occurs across multiple systems.

Anyone have any ideas?

Appreciate any input.

Office 2013 SP1 fails with code 17302 - SCCM 2007 R2

Hi,

I am trying to deploy Office 2013, along with SP1, in the following order:

1. Prompt to close all office apps and continue (vbs)

2. Installation of Office 2013, using modified msp.

3. Restart

4. Installation of SP1 with command line /passive /norestart.

I am doing this all through a package I created in SCCM 2007 R2.

The first few programs works well. However, when the installation of SP1 starts, SCCM launches the program, then SP1 fails with code 17302.

Manual installation, through command prompt, with the same switches works fine.

The error is only when remotely deploying.

The system is Windows 7 X86 with latest SP.

Please help!
