OneDrive for Business missing after unattended installation

$

Hi,

I'm trying to deploy OnyDrive for Business to some clients. My sources are Office Pro 2013 files. I created a MSP file and selected only OneDrive as a single component to install. And if I start the setup.exe with /adminfile:onedrive.msp the installation runs without any error messages. But OneDrive and its icon are still not installed.

Cant find any hints in the log file.

Next curiousity: When I start the Setup.exe again manually and go to add/remove features, change nothing and click next, OneDrive is successfully installed after the process is finished.

Any idea whats wrong or what I can check?

Thx, Mike

Prevent Students from Installing Office 2016

We teach hundreds of Office 2013 classes and we use textbooks that are specific to the Office version. Some of the course material is auto-graded using a third-party. Our environment uses Office 2013 which we manage, but we are concerned about our online students. Since the update to Office 2016 is coming mid-term, do you have a way for us to tell our students to disable the update until after the term is over or until they are no longer taking Office classes?

Office 365 ProPlus licences via Azure AD Licensing module

Hello!

Currently we are in the Office 365 and EMS deployment phase, so in our tenant we have activated both Azure EMS and Office 365 ProPlus product subscriptions. We are using Azure AD Licenses module to automatically assign user licenses based on group membership. During one of the Office 365 learning sessions Microsoft presenter mentioned that it is possible to assign Office 365 licenses via same Azure AD feature.

Please provide the ability to assign Office 365 ProPlus licences via Azure AD Licensing module.

Thank you in advance!

So I recently bought a new computer and it came pre-installed with office pro 365 (only a trial but thats okay) I bought a product code from someone claiming to be a legitimate seller of the codes and it turns out it's not an active code and it's been used before, is there anything I can do to either get office without paying again or am I stuck paying again?

In our installation of 365 ProPlus all users are able to run all apps bar 2 (Access and Publisher). Some users will need one or both to work successfully.  Can anyone suggest a method where an installation of just Access or Publisher can be added and locked in a separate thinapp, AppV application so it is not installed on to our Gold build virtual terminals?  This is to make the applications available only to the users who need them.

Thanks

Updated FQDNs for Office 365 activation through Firewall - are the URLs updated?

$

We are having an issue that the supplied URLs and IP addresses are not allowing activation of Office 365 through our Firewall.

We are using the lists provided here (Office 365 URLs and IP)

Can anyone confirm if these lists are correct?

Our usage scenario is: We block the Internet to students during exam periods, but need to maintain a connection to O365 for activation purposes. Students do NOT require access to Onedrive or Sharepoint services.

We have added the following list of FQDNs to the firewall:

activation.sls.microsoft.com

crl.microsoft.com

odc.officeapps.live.com

clientconfig.microsoftonline-p.net

ols.officeapps.live.com

office15client.microsoft.com

login.windows.net

login.microsoftonline.com

officecdn.microsoft.com

But are still finding that O365 cannot resolve through them. Any suggestions on which ones I need to add the firewall?

Thanks in advance!

License authentication issues with Office 365 using Shared Computer Activation in a Mandatory Profile environment

Hei hei,

As the title states, I am running into issues with the license of users who have a mandatory profile assigned to them. Effectively, whenever they log off a computer, the SCA license that they have just activated gets removed and is no longer available requiring a new activation round.

The environment for the students is: multiple datarooms with laptops & desktops, students do not have a permanent pc. All students have a mandatory profile updated for Windows 8.1. Office 365 is installed with Shared Computer Activation. We do not (yet) use Federated services for SSO between our Domain and Tenant.

Students activate O365 once they logon and this then also connects up their Onedrive area. When they logoff we have seen that their authentication token for O365 does not get retained in "%Users%\<username>\%appdata%\roaming\microsoft\credentials" - the expected TXT files are missing. And under Credential Manager in the Control Panel, there is no credentials stored for the user to "MicrosoftOffice15"

Looking in the registry at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\ClickToRun\Configuration" I can see that the ShareComputerLicense = 1.

I have so far only confirmed that changing a user from a Mandatory profile to a Local profile does retain the license, but I would prefer NOT to have a local profile of each student on a pc...

Does anyone have any suggestions on:

1) Retaining a license for a period of time?

Ideally we would avoid using a KMS/MAC based Office 2013 license to resolve this issue.

We want DBF support in office 2013 Excel as it is required in one of our crucial day to day process. We are unable to get 2007 or 2010 (which supports dbf) licence copy from Microsoft or even from out side vendors. Please let us know how should we go about.

Office 2016

Good day,

We are being asked to deliver an Office upgrade in our organisation

  1. Will Office 2016 be Click-to-run only or will there be a traditional Office 2016 msi file?
  2. Will Office 2016 activate? via our onsite KMS
  3. Will Office 2016 run alongside already installed Office 2010.
  4. Is the Microsoft Online Services Sign-In Assistant required for Office 2016 running on Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows 10 if in the future we go down the Office365 route.

Regards

Paddy

Connection issues on corporate network. Fiddler resolves issues!

Hi,  we have been testing O365 for a few months now and I have never been able to successfully sync the Office 365 apps (OneDrive, OneNote, and license checks in Word etc.) on my Surface when connected to our corporate network.  If I connect to the guest wifi network the syncs work again.

So I installed Fiddler to see if I could find out what endpoints the suite was trying to connect to, and to my surprise all my syncs were working again, until I closed Fiddler.

I know Fiddler acts as a middle man in the form of a proxy but I don't understand why things work when it is running, or where the issue lies.  Our Infrastructure team have added what we believe to be the full list of Microsoft addresses to the firewall and proxy exclusions but this doesn't help me.

I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 and have the same issue as I did on Windows 8.1.

Any help would be gratefully received.

I am really flabbergasted that MS is keeping me away from my email, contact, tasks and calendar. I want to get into the exchange servers settings to turn off a forwarding rule ...

Office 365 ProPlus - Stop Updates to 2016 in O365 Portal

My educational institution is currently using Office 365 ProPlus.  Currently, students using Windows install Office 2013 through the Office 365 Portal.  Can we use Current Branch for Business settings in the portal?  All I see now are Standard Release and First Release.  We need to delay the release of Office 2016 until August 2016 due to incompatibility with simulation software and textbooks.

Office 2013 Needing to Activate After It Has Already Been Activated.

$

We have recently begun an upgrade from Office 2007 to 2013 Pro Plus on our corporate Windows 7 PC’s. We are using the volume license version with a known valid MAK.  We are pretty much doing a default installation using an unattended install, but they have also just been running the setup.exe from the install location once they started seeing this problem.  In every case, there are no installation issues and each installation of Office 2013 has SUCCESSFULLY activated. The issue happens days or weeks later that the user is prompted to activate. It will not activate with user credentials.

We have seen scenarios where just logging in with an account with local admin rights is enough to activate it as well as instances where it will not, even when re-entering the valid key. The latter requires our techs run Office repair just to be able to uninstall Office and reinstall. But in either of these scenarios, the user may again eventually be prompted to activate – maybe a few days or a week or so later.  So far most of the PC's that have exhibited this problem once and had it fixed in any way, have had it reoccur. However, some PC's only required reactivation once and other PC's upgraded have not been affected at all - at least not yet anyway.

This has been a recurring problem on about a dozen or so PC’s out of 40 or so Office 2013 upgrades and the list of affected PC’s is slowly growing.  There are no outright error messages in the event viewer, just informational. So if there is something we need to look for to troubleshoot, any advice would be helpful.

The PC's are all HP with the OEM Windows 7 installed.  Some of the PC's are several year old All-in-Ones, while all of the others are recently deployed HP Mini towers purchased within the last year.

As much as we want to resolve this issue with the PC's already affected, we want see if there is something that needs to be checked on the PC's that have not had Office 2013 Pro Plus installed yet.  Thanks in advance.

Microsoft Account vs. Office 365 (Enterprise / Education) Account?

$

I am trying to get current answer to the question of Microsoft Account (Windows Store, Xbox, OneDrive and anything other than Office 365) vs. an Office 365 account created via Enterprise / Education setup. It appears that you are able to have two accounts with same email / login but that are not linked? Further you can't link them even if you want to?  Is this correct, is there circumstances where it isn't true?  It is there a TechNet / KB article that has a matrix of these two account hierarchies and what they do and don't do?

In my case I have AD connected to Office 365 and I want to try and give good information to users if they had previously created a Microsoft account with same email address.  Thanks for any info.
