I have an approx 8 year old HP Atom netbook with Windows 7 32bit starter that came with bundled office 2003. My company had it updated to office 2010 some years ago; I had it running with EMET and AVIRA.
Since I applied September windows 7 updates, all Office apps stopped working. When I open them, I see the windows process fillling each core (50%) and at a fixed memory usage (6812 KB in Word for office 365).
I uninstalled telemetry (e.g. KB3114717) upgrades with wusa; the issues are still unsolved. I tried running as an admin, running as other user, running in safe mode.
I uninstalled all the office apps many times and tried demo versions; but apps still don't even show the splash screen. I even tried a student 365 license (click to install) form my education provider, and it shows exactly the same issue.
Formatting this computer, which came without disk drive, is not possible. Also, the company has a BYOD policy but not a "we fix your issues with Office at all costs" policy.
I'm desperate to have Office running in my computer; might this problem be related to apps failing to open a windows installer or something? Or telemetry?
