SBS 2003 migration to Office 365

$

Hi,

I have a customer who currently has one SBS 2003 server providing Exchange, DC, and File and print. They have approx 25 users.

We want to move them to Office 365 for Email and potentially file data into SharePoint at a later stage. Because of the numbers (although not high) I would like to enable Dir-sync to keep passwords in sync.

I would like some advice on the best approach to achieve this from a migration perspective.

My high level thoughts are:

1. Setup Office 365 accounts for users.

2. Migrate users email to Office 365 by PST method

3. Put a new 2012 R2 server on premise, create new users (making sure I add the Proxy Address attributes for the Office 365 email addresses) and migrate File and print from existing SBS server

4. Setup dir-sync from the new server to the Office 365.

Would this work? Would the new accounts on-premise be associated with the Office 365 accounts?

Or is there a altogether better way of achieving this migration?

Thanks

Mark

Office 2013 Crashing After Printing to HP Laser Printers

$

I have a customer with an HP Elite computer, Windows 8, and Office 2013 (perpetual license, NOT Office 365).  The first page of a print job to an HP laser printer comes out fine.  However, it will not print another page.  Word or Excel hangs, and then asks to "Restart, or Close".  After the first page, if I go to Task Manager, I see "Windows Host Process (Rundll32) Not Responding".  Also when I close Windows 8, I get the message hpmsn140.dll or hpmsn09.dll "Not Responding".

This problem does not occur with other applications.

This problem does not occur with other non-HP LaserJet printers.

This problem occurs with both USB and network printers.

The only way to clear the problem is rebooting the computer.

I have tried the Windows 8 driver, HP's PCL 6 driver from their website, and HP Universal Print Driver from their website.  All have the same issue.

I have tried logging in as Administrator, as well as, the Standard User.  Both logins have the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Michael

Office proplus deployment across organization

Team,

Issue: Deployment of Office 2013 across organization for E3 users, without upgrading or uninstalling Office 2010.

Sorry if the questions has been raised in the past on this forum.

Team, need to understand the key issues or requirement at architecture level while going for deployment of OFF 2013 org wide.

Possible issues, post office 2013, that I can think of:

a) Increase in performance issue on client machine?

b) deployment options : Click to Run & Any other option?

c) Macro enabled Excel sheet, can that be impacted if run in Office 2013?

d) Any architectural change in Office 2013 as compare to Office 2010?

Looking for your valuable inputs.

We have working installations of office 2013 - Home and Business on two machines and we are trying to install Access 2013.

Both machines are running Windows 8.1

We have purchased 2 standalone physical media of Access 2013 to install on the machines.

We place the disks in the drive and get a small indicator that the disk are being read and then nothing.

We tried running  \office\setup32.exe -v (we have 32bit office version already installed) and get message saying. "we're sorry, we can't continue because we weren't able to download a required file. "

We are  connected to internet and i have tried disabling the firewall and antivirus but get nowhere. I do not wish to uninstall office unless i absolutely have to. Any suggestions please.

Hi

I tried to install Office 2013 Professional Plus 64 bit on my Windows 8.1 Update 1 pro 64 bit Lenovo Thinkpad E530.

The MSI crashes after I deselected Lync and OneDrive for Business and selected Organigram for Powerpoint with the error code 1653 showing up on my Event Log.

The message in my Event Log looks like this:

What I've tried so far:

Used several fixitTools

Office 2007 Suite: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218#Method2

Office 2010 Suite: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301#Method2

And of course

Office 2013 Suite: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

I even executed this PowerShell script to ensure that Rollback is disabled and the Microsoft Helper is deleted

http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/How-to-fix-Office-af646d16

Note that my Microsoft Helper folder was not even there before I run the script.

The Rollback was enabled as I checked and I checked manually for another or the same installation to be listed in the Program Settings.

After several Reboots and run as Administrator and frustrations I came to you.

Could you help me please?

Thanks in advance

Best Migration Method for Exchange 2007 with multiple accepted domains

$

We are trying to determine which method would be best for us as we migrate to O365.  Scenario as follows:

1) Multiple accepted domains (each in their own OU in AD); example: domainA.com, domainB.com

2) Exchange is 2007; clients will be upgrading the Outlook 2013

3) Would like to be able to sync mailboxes starting anytime but be able to cut over a domain at a time.

Tested so far with staged migration but it appears that with this, there is a change in the TargetAddress sending all mail to the O365.  Even changing MXs didn't redirect the message as it reaches the Exchange box and immediately goes to O365.

We haven't tried the cutover as we're only able to test with the production box and if that somehow cutover the entire box, we'd be .. well, it wouldn't be good.

Anyone had any experience so that our #3 point would be doable, that would be great.

Thx

George

Want to export user settings from Office 2007 on client, to be able to import in Office 2013?

Frozen out menu ribbon in Word 2013 and cannot preview word documents in Outlook 2013

$

I seem to be having a recurring problem with Word 2013 from Office Home Edition single user. When I try to put a caption on a table, the entire document page layout changes from portrait to something close to landscape and then the entire menu ribbon freezes out. I usually have to save the file, close and reopen using the open and repair feature as the document only opens in read only after this incidence happens. Since the first time I experienced this in early July, I haven't been able to preview Word files in office outlook 2013 and the protected mode feature hasn't worked since then either.

Can I get some help with this please? I reinstalled, did online fixing and tried a few other fixes to no avail. Could it have started as a result of my installing a trial version of Office Visio which comes as a totally different package from my Home edition?

Thank you

Artifact for Office Picture Manager after install of Office Pro Plus 2013

$

Upgrading from Office 2003 to Office 2013, with the assumption that the Office 2013 install first removes all previous versions before installing.

For some users, running Windows 7, with Microsoft Office 2003 SP3 and the 2007 compatibility pack installed, after the Office 2013 Pro Plus installer runs, whenever an Office 2013 Access application is launched the user gets a message box  as shown below.  None of our Access VBA have Office Picture Manager in the reference list, so it should not be an issue caused by any Access applications.

Since the Office Picture Manager is no longer part of Microsoft Office as of Office 2013, this is a problem.  Several workarounds have been posted on several blogs on the Internet for installing Office Picture Manager from an earlier version on a computer with Office 2013 installed to eliminate the error, which of course assumes that it is desireable to have Office Picture Manager.

My position is that there should be a fix for the orphaned artifacts calling for Office Picture Manager when launching Office 2013 MS Access, that does not involve the installation of a deprecated product.  Multiple searches of TechNet come up empty in that regard.

Is there a fix for this issue forthcoming, or does anyone have an answer that does not involve installing a backrevved Office Picture Manager just to make the error message shut up?

Clean install of the OS is not to be considered a solution.  There are too many computers involved to even consider that to be acceptable.  I would rather have a registry cleanup script that could be pushed through GPO than to have to go to each computer and run a FixIt, so please try not to push the FixIt option either...

Thanks!

Office 2013 w/SP1 OCT - Lync 2013

Hi,

We are trying to deploy Office 2013 w/SP1 from the ISO image -35821 using OCT. We have created a new CUSTOM.MSP file everything is installed as expected in the MSP file EXCEPT Lync 2013.

In any way we are able to install it. If we run the setup manually, Lync 2013 is installed, but using the OCT we never had a chance to install it correctly. Even using the ID config.xml, Lync don't want to install.

Any thoughts /comments?Thanks and best regards

Onedrive for business: Sync Desktop and Documents in enterprise deployment

$

Hi,

I have some questions:

First question:

There is a way to deploy onedrive in an enterprise environment without any click by the final user?

I want that when, by SCCM, I install the software it read by itself the library link and doesn't display the button "Sync Now".

Second question:

a lot of users, in the enterprise where I'm working, have the folders desktop and documents under C:\users\username\ and wants to use OneDrive to sync the contents of these two folders.

Can I create a symlink of these two folders under c:\users\username\onedrive\ so it sync all contents of the folders desktop and documents? I've tried but there is a icon red that cannot sync these symlinks.

In which way can I sync these two folders?

Third question

If i cannot create a symlink I need to move the desktop and documents folders into OneDrive folder, but  if I create a GPO with Folder redirection that redirect the desktop and the documents folder into the folder "c:\users\username\onedrive" when the user connect for the first time into the pc the gpo create these two folders, and when click the "Sync now" button into OneDrive, OneDrive see that still exists the folder named onedrive and so it create another one called  "Onedrive (2)".

How can I do?

Best regards

O365 Exchange Data

Dear all,

I have a new network which has 3 DCs all running W12K R2 and I want to start using Office 365 for email. At the moment my network does not have a email server and I wanted to extend the AD schema to allow better management of email via my local directory before I perform the DirSync. The problem I have is most of the technical articles I come across explain how to do this with Exchange 2010 however I would like to use Exchange 2013.

The exchange 2010 technical reference explains I must have the ex10 setup files and then run: setup /PrepareSchema

I have located some documents that explain to extend the AD schema with ex13 I should have the setup files and then: setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

Can anyone please let me know if this is the correct method or do I also need to run: setup.exe /PrepareAD /OrganizationName:"<organization name>" /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

as well?

Hello,

I'm currently evaluating O365 E3 and am specifically looking into what my options are for deploying Office 2013 Pro Plus when rolling out a new PC image.  Currently I use MDT 2013 to deploy the image to new PCs and install Office 2010 along with other applications.  Can I use C2R with a config file pointing to a local repository of the installation files with MDT 2013?

When I go to the technet evaluation center (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-visio-professional-2013) to try to download a trial version of anything, I receive the below error.  I have tried on both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 7 64 bit.  I had a conversation with the Microsoft online people and the lady I talked to got the same error, but couldn't help me.  This has been happening since yesterday.  I'd appreciate it if you could get back to me on this quickly as I am trying to evaluate Visio 2010 vs. 2013 for my company's use.

Deploying full Lync 2013 client when lync basic 2013 has already been deployed

Hi,

In our client environment around 5000 machines have been installed with lync basic 2013 version. We need to convert all these machines to LYNC 2013 full version.  We already have full version package but when we try to install on top of lync basic installed machines it is getting replaced with full version but still lync basic 2013 version was listed on add/remove program. So not sure this will cause any issue. or is there any other way to activate existing basic lync 2013 to full version through script or something. Can someone please share best possible method to convert those basic lync installed machines to lync full version.

Madhan

Office 365 Pro Plus install failures during SCCM OSD

$

Hi All,

I'm in the process of deploying Office 365Pro Plus using SCCM 2012 r2 and have found some very weird behaviour. I have already downloaded the source and the Office folder exists in the same folder as setup.exe and my install xml looks like this:

<Configuration>
  <Add SourcePath="" OfficeClientEdition="32" >
    <Product ID="O365ProPlusRetail">
      <Language ID="en-us" />
    </Product>
  </Add>
  <Updates Enabled="TRUE" UpdatePath="" />
  <Display Level="None" AcceptEULA="TRUE" />
  <Logging Name="OfficeSetup.txt" Path="%temp%" />
</Configuration>

The install starts but completes after 5 seconds and OfficeSetup.txt shows Products configured successfully. Looking at other logs that are generated I can see a number of interesting entries:

The call to OfficeClickToRun.exe:

Calling {C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX86\OfficeClickToRun.exe} with parameter {scenario=unknown baseurl="C:\Windows\ccmcache\b\Office\Data\15.0.4623.1003" version="15.0.4623.1003" platform="x86" displaylevel="False" culture="en-us" updatesenabled="True" firstrun="root\office15\firstrun.exe" productstoadd="O365ProPlusRetail_en-us_x-none"}

A error code that does not seem to have been passed back to the main log:

Click-To-Run    ap11d    Medium    StandaloneStartupBehavior::Start - Exit with error code 17002

A fatal error of FileNotFound:

Click-To-Run    amcq9    Unexpected    CCS::IsReachable. Source (C:\Windows\ccmcache\b\Office\Data\15.0.4623.1003\Office\Data\15.0.4623.1003\stream.x86.en-us.dat) not reachable. Exception FileNotFound (Source not reachable.)

I believe this last error is the root cause of the failures at the source directory seems to have been added to the file path twice. The streamfile is located in C:\Windows\ccmcache\b\Office\Data\15.0.4623.1003 but something is adding and additional \Office\Data\15.0.4623.1003 to the path which does not exist.

This is a massive issue for us which is preventing deployment so any help is greatly appreciated.

Simon.
