Public folder migration planning in hybrid environment

$

Hi,

I'm plannig to migrate public folders to 365 using the following guide: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-GB/library/dn874017%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Can anyone advise if when you migrate public folders from on premises to 365 if the user needs to re add them or if they will be just there as usual when they open outlook?

Also do the permissions migrate automatically?

Also if this method fails and I have to create the public folders manually, once I assign he user the permission to their folder will it appear or will they have to add it?

I'm trying to use the Setup.exe / Download Configuration.xml  to download the latest current release version of office 2016.

The changelog located at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/office/mt465751.aspx  advises this:

Version 1609 (Build 7369.2038)

However the tool continues to only download:

Version 1607 (Build 7167.2060)

Any ideas/help appreciated!

I am running Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 on a Windows 8.1 (64-bit) PC, using DirectX 11 and the latest video card drivers (or at least Windows tells me I am), however when trying to run Power Map I get the error:

Cannot initialize DirectX. Confirm that you [sic] hardware supports DirectX 10 or later and that you have the latest video card driver installed.

Excel 2013 freezes when selecting File tab, works when Print Spooler is stopped.

What is the fix? What is Microsoft doing to come up with a solution. I've seen numerous issues with the printers and Office 2013 in the forum. Years ago I was glad that MS had the monopoly on OS. Otherwise, I might have ended up owning the Beta-Max (showing my age) of computer OSs. Now it seems they don't have to provide responsive customer service since they are the predominate OS. My Office 2013 is still under warranty, but the Tier 1 and 2 MS Engineers were unable to fix the problem. In addition, my Devices and Printer windows takes forever to load and never shows Devices or Printers. Started on this computer after stopping the spooler to properly operate my Excel. Same problem with other computer regarding printer window.

Inconsistent behaviour of registry deletion of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word on Windows 2012 R2 Server OS with Microsoft Office 2013.

Hello,

My application (Add-In Plugin) requires to check if Microsoft Office is present on the system or not, during its installation.
For that purpose, it checks registry keys which are being created during installation of Microsoft Office and gets
deleted vice versa. However, there is an intermittent behaviour observed where sometime this registry entry
("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word")
gets deleted on uninstallation and few of the times not. Due to that, my application(Add-In Plugin) installation behaves unexpected.

Steps I followed:
1. Install "Microsoft Office 2013" on "Windows 2012 R2 Server" OS (presently observed only on Windows 2012 R2 Server OS).
2. Open MS Word application and close it.
3. Uninstall MS Office 2013.
4. Try Installing my Add-In.
5. Ideally it should not install as per expected behaviour, since it finds a registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Text Converters" so it installs.

Is there any specific reason to keep this registry key even if office is uninstalled?
Also, why am I seeing this inconsistent behaviour of registry deletion? Or please share some way which is most reliable and safe to check presence of Office on a System.

Please help!

Thanks & Best regards,

Word 2013 templates via gpo

Hi There

Am trying to force a default word template for all users but am running into problems, at the moment i have a gpo to copy and replace a custom normal.dotm to the default templates folder of each user

%AppData%\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dotm

This works fine for existing users but for new user profiles being created it pulls the old template settings initially and it can take a while for the gpo to replace the default template for new users.

How do i get new user profiles to get this new template immediately?

Office 2013 click to run and Project 2013 Volume?

Hello,

I am trying to install Project 2013 Standard Volume on a system with Office 2013 Click to run.

I have tried to download with the following XML, but receive a failure message. However there is still a ~200MB office folder created.

<Configuration><Add SourcePath="c:\ProjectStdXVolume" OfficeClientEdition="32"><Product ID="ProjectStdXVolume" ><Language ID="en-us" /></Product></Add></Configuration>

I have also tried installing with the following XML with no source path and the path to the 200MB office folder. There is no interface or pop up error when I try to run the installation only the logs.

<Configuration><Add SourcePath="C:\ProjectStdXVolume" OfficeClientEdition="32" ><Product ID="ProjectStdXVolume"></Product></Add><Display Level="Full" AcceptEULA="TRUE" /><Logging Path="%temp%" /><!--  <Property Name="AUTOACTIVATE" Value="1" />  --></Configuration>

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any help is appreciated.

Setting all Word file type associations through Group Policy

I'm trying to set all the default file associations in Word through Group Policy.

In Group Policy Editor, I have tried using the Registry Wizard to copy over all the relevant keys and I have also exported the .reg file from the registry and converted it to XML and imported that into the Preferences\Windows Settings\Control Panel\Registry but so far nothing has been working.

I understand that I can set file associations one-by-one in the File Types section but this seems like a klunky approach and I also want to make sure the "Word is not your default program..." dialog box doesn't show up due to some file types not being associated with Word.

What I want to do find the setting in Group Policy that has the same result as going to Control Panel\Default Programs, selecting Word, and clicking "Set this program as default" to set ALL defaults with one policy setting.

Is this possible? Thanks

Migration of Public Folders Fails with:The current derserialized object size is 78694400.

Trying to Migrate 2111 Public folders totaling 16GB to Office 365.  Individual Mailboxes have all been migrated.  I'm following the details in https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn874017 and in running step 5 (for ~8 hours) theNew-MigrationBatch command fails with : "The current deserialized object size of the data received from the remote client exceeded allowed maximum object size. The current deserialized object size is 78694400, Allowed maximum object size is 78643200."

I'm no expert at Powershell or this clumsy migration process so hopefully someone can shed some light on this error for me.

Thanks!

"Word experience an error trying to open the file"

I installed Microsoft Office Professional 2010 about a month and a half ago and have not been having any problems until yesterday.  I received a word document as an attachment in my Outlook and I cannot open the file.  I keep getting the following error: "Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions - *check the file permissions for the document or drive, *make sure there is sufficient free memory or disk space, *open the file with the Text Recovery Converter"

This same email was also sent to a coworker and she had no problem opening it - she is using word 2000. I also had another coworker send me a test word attachment so that it would come from a different email and I had the same problem with that attachment.

It was sent using Microsoft 2000 or 2003 and I have NOT had problems with her sending the older files when I switched to 2010. I can open other word files already saved on my computer from previous emails.

I also tried saving it on my computer and then opening word and when going to open the document right-click and open and repair and I receive the same error message.
