Excel gets "Access denied" when opening password-protected files on network-shares

Since monday a number of users are unable to open excel-files that are protected by a password from network-shares. The clients computers are all running Windows 10 and are up to date with both Windows and Microsoft-updates.
The Office-version used is Office 2013.

Opening a file which is not password-protected from the same folder works, the user-permissions are correct since they are able to create folders, files, rename files and remove files from within the same folder as where the file is.

If I copy this file to their desktop or email them the file it opens fine, so it is definately related to opening on a network-share.
I also tried to copy it to their home-folder which is giving the same problem - Access denied when their own user is set as owner of the folder and has full permissions.

If I set another owner the error is "You need permission from domain\username".
The shares are served from 2st fileservers running Windows Server 2012 R2 which are also up to date when it comes to Windows updates.
The path to the share is a DFS-folder path if that helps.
