Populating ProxyAddresses for new Exchange Online mailboxes using adsiedit

Greetings,

We are decommissioning our Exchange servers after migrating all of our mailboxes to Exchange Online via Hybrid Mode.

I understand that it is recommended that we leave one Exchange server onsite to manage users, but I'd prefer to shut them down.

I created a user using adsiedit and manually updated the 'Mail', 'MailNickname' and 'ProxyAddresses' and then synced it with DirSync. After granting a license all appears to be fine.

Our x500 and x400 addresses are autogenerated by Exchange so that they look something like this:

X500:/o=CompanyName./ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPLLPP)/cn=Recipients/cn=UserNamec92

x500:/o=ExchangeLabs/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPLLPL)/cn=Recipients/cn=35cfbe777251475d8f0d1f4adc3a3f19-User Na

X400:C=US;A= ;P=Partial Company Name;O=AUSTIN;S=User Last Name;G=User First Name;

For the X400 I could manually add this to new users, however I cannot do the same for the x500 addresses because there is random generation that occurs, for example the 92 at the end of the username.

What have others done regarding this? Is there a way to enter those addresses manually?

Is it safe to forego those addresses with new users?

Thanks,

Flynn
