We’ve a fresh installed Windows 8 Pro and Office 2013. Printing works correctly in every application but Office 2013.
Word, Excel, Outlook … printing causes the application to crash.
Any idea if this is a known issue?

Regards.

Problems with KMS activation for Office 2013

Hello!

We have some trouble with the KMS activation on some of our Office installations. The computers with problems are Windows 7 and they previously had Office 2010 installed (we had used up all the MAK activations, and had to activiate them by telephone... the reason we changed to KMS). KMS activation functions as it should be on the computers that had Office 2013 clean installed.

I've tried the following:

Set the default license key in case it remembered the old 2010 key

Run commands such as slmgr.vbs /skms [servername]:[port] and manually registring said server and port in Registry.

Ping the KMS server (both servername and IP). It replies.

Also tried to uninstall Office 2013, run CCleaner on Registry and reinstall Office 2013 (in case some of the old configuration of Office 2010 still remained in Registry).

Tried to run the troubleshooter for Activation of KMS Clients and it gave the report of 0xC004F056, and said that the TCP request to the KMS host failed. It's report also links to Article 2870357 - Telnet failure, but I've followed that and it did not work.

Does anyone have any idea on what I can try now? Something else than using MAK activation or reinstall the computers with Windows 8 and Office 2013?

Thanks for any help!

I have a situation where I have setup directory sync with the on premise AD and Office 365. I have now tried to disable directory sync and is has been a week and it still says:

Active Directory synchronization is being deactivated. This process may take up to 72 hours to complete.

in the admin site. I also get this from the PowerShell:

PS C:\Windows\system32> (Get-MSOLCompanyInformation).DirectorySynchronizationStatus
PendingDisabled

I really need some help getting this disabled properly so I can start fresh with directory sync.

Upgrading Office 2013 with Outlook 2010 to Office 2013 including Outlook 2013

Hi,

We deployed Office 2013 Pro without Outlook and also Outlook 2010 to our workstations last year as we still had exchange 2003. As we have now upgraded to exchange 2010, we are unsure how best to get our clients up-to full office 2013 and get rid of Outlook 2010.

Can anyone give us some guidance please on how best to achieve this?

e.g Do we perform some kind of maintenance on Office 2013 to include Outlook and will it automatically remove 2010?

Thanks in advance,

Shaun

Apps for Office on an Office 365 tenant with federated identity

There seems to be precious little info around about how to configure an Apps for Office store on an Office 365 tenant. More around for an Apps for SharePoint store (like how to find, request, purchase, etc.) but not for Office.

You create the same App Store, but there is no obvious way of requesting and publishing any of the apps from the online Office Store. e.g., the Free dictionaries, which are a big omission from Office 2013 by default!

This is the sort of stuff I've found, but whilst it's a beginning, I'm still left feeling lost:

Supported distribution points for apps for Office

After an app for Office is created by a developer, the developer can decide how to publish it so that it is available to the users within your organization. In Office 2013, the following distribution points are supported for publishing apps for Office:

  • Office Store Hosted and regulated by Microsoft, the Office Store is where developers around the world can publish and sell their custom Office solutions. End users and IT professionals can download these custom Office solutions for personal or corporate use. Office Store handles the consumer download experience from discovery to purchase, upgrades, and updates.

  • SharePoint App Catalog   For task pane and content apps, IT departments can deploy private app catalogs to provide the same app acquisition experience that the Office Store provides. This new catalog and development platform enables IT departments to use a streamlined method to distribute apps for Office and SharePoint to managed users from a central location.

    App Catalog is available to all SharePoint customers (including Office 365 and SharePoint on-premises). App Catalog enables publishing and administration of both internally created apps and apps that are available in the Office Store and licensed for corporate use. For more information, see Manage the App Catalog in SharePoint 2013.

  • Exchange catalog   This is a private catalog that is managed by an Exchange administrator for mail apps that are available to users of the Exchange Server on which it resides. It enables publication and administration of corporate mail apps, such as internally created apps and apps that are available in the Office Store and licensed for corporate use.

  • File-based app catalog   IT departments and developers can deploy task pane and content apps to a central file share, where the manifest files will be stored and managed. Users can then obtain apps by specifying this file share as a trusted catalog, or an IT administrator can configure this file share as a trusted catalog by using Group Policy.

What I'm after is actual guidance upon how to setup, manage and use a SharePoint App Catalog in Office 365 with users who do not (and should not need to) have Microsoft accounts but are using Federated identify back to our internal AD. So has anyone done this, and how did they do it?

Office 365 Click-To-Run App Exclusion Issue

Hello All,

I'm having trouble with the new office365 click-to-run app exclusion option. I've watched the office garage web series on this and the config.xml file looks almost identical, but for some reason the apps will not be excluded during the install. Running the May 7th, 2014 build of the office deployment tool. Below is the config file, is something configured wrong? Or is there some patch that needs to be applied?

<Configuration>
 <Add SourcePath="C:\o365" OfficeClientEdition="32">
    <Product ID="O365ProPlusRetail" >
      <Language ID="en-us" />
      <ExcludeApp ID="Infopath" />
      <ExcludeApp ID="Access" />
    </Product>
 </Add>
 <Display Level="None" AcceptEULA="TRUE" />
 <Property Name="SharedComputerLicensing" Value="1" />

How do you uninstall a few Office 365 Components (Access and Publisher) to make more storage space available on the drive

When the Microsoft store sold me my computer and a subscription to Office 365, the sales person told me I could easily uninstall Access and Publisher in order to make more space available on the solid state drive.  I see no way to do this from the control panel's "uninstall programs."  How can I do this?

Deployment of Office 2013 on a 2012 RDS Server

I am having a problem with Office 2013 (Volume License) on a 2012 RDS Server.  I have run the install multiple times with and without the /Install feature and in ADMIN mode.  The software installs just fine but when a user tries to open an application like Word for the first time it does a first use configuration and asks for Administrative credentials.  If you click no it states that it could not configure Windows Update.  I have tried to follow the KB articles exactly but 2013 refuses to allow a regular use to run it on a virtualized or as remote app.

Can anyone please help and give specific instructions on how to get this working.

Thank you,

John

Force save location of opened documents?

$

I've been scratching my head on this issue for awhile. I work at a public library and we use software (DeepFreeze) that, upon reboot, will wipe any changes made to a machine during a user's session. Because of this, we've tried to make things as simple as possible for our users (as much as we can).

We've successfully changed the default save location for Office products to the current user's Desktop. Unfortunately, when users choose to "Open" documents sent to them - in emails for instance - when the user chooses to "Save", it simply overwrites the file in its current location - typically the Temporary Internet Files folder (or subfolder). When they then look for the file on the desktop after having closed the document within, let's say, Microsoft Word, it is not on the desktop as they (unfortunately) suspected. Trying to then find the file in the system after the fact becomes rather difficult as we also have the C: drive hidden via local group policy settings.

Is anyone aware of any such way to (possibly) circumvent this particular type of problem? Thanks!

microsoft office professional 2013 encountered an error during setup

Trying to install the 32 bit version of Office 2013.  Planning to keep all my old versions.  I have Access 2002 and 2003 that I need.  Was not installing Outlook 2013 as Outlook 2010 is the only Office app that I care if I have issues with and my IT dept controls a a bit more.  Getting the error "microsoft office professional 2013 encountered an error during setup" with no other info.  I have Windows 7, full admin rights, and closed all other Office apps.  I Just did a restart which also installed all current Windows patches.  Got the same error.

Any ideas or where to look for the cause?

Office Deployment Tool Config for 2013 Pro Plus

Hi!

   I'm trying to update an installation of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 and wonder if somebody could help me with the correct Product ID to use for the Office Deployment Tool configuration.xml file?  Almost all the examples seem to use O365ProPlusRetail.

   The configuration documentation here discusses only Office 365: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219426%28v=office.15%29.aspx

   But it links to this page, which lists product IDs, but no description (thank you not very much!): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2842297/en-us

   There's a "ProfessionalRetail" there; elsewhere I've seen a "ProPlusRetail" which isn't listed there, and I'm hoping that if I get the right Product ID I can get this cantankerous update process to work!

   Thanks much,
       Rob

How to migrate Office 2010 Pro application most recently opened document (MRU) to Office 2013 applications

$

I am upgrading from Office 2010 Pro to Office 2013 Pro. In my test, we discovered that the MRUs are not getting migrated over from the Office 2010 Pro applications into the Office 2013 Pro applications.   I am using the Microsoft Office 2013 OCT to do the configurations.  In the OCT, I have "migrate user settings" checked, but that did not work for the users MRUs.  I came across the following link

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/67b3622f-5b7c-4c57-b71d-c8c7de6f7da9/office-2010-pro-to-2013-not-migrating-settings-and-recent-history?forum=officeitpro

That suggests manually creating the Migration key with sub keys like below

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Migration\Word]
"UpgradeVersion"=dword:0000000d
"Lang"=dword:00000409

On the test machine that I was using and had installed Microsoft Office 2013 Pro on, I found the keys listed as follows

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Migration\Word]
"UpgradeVersion"=dword:0000000e
"Lang"=dword:00000000

1) I would like to know which is correct subkey ("UpgradeVersion" and "Lang") to use?

2) Since I am using the OCT, can I add or import them into the OCT add registry entries section?

Thanks for your help.

Upgrading from Office 2000 to Office 2013

I've been hired to help with a migration project to upgrade a company's Office 2000 to Office 2013.  I am starting with testing Excel.  They have files that have embedded SQL and VBA programming.  Also it requires an ODBC connection.  What would be the best route to take for this?

Thank you in advance,

Larry
